What a great way for Mum or Dad to relive their childhood while showing your children how much fun can be had building and creating together. This is a fantastic opportunity to bond with your children designing, building and racing a billycart for two. For example Pink Barbie car with a unicorn bonnet or a jet propelled flying saucer car!
A great category for those budding Engineers, Carpenters, Fabricators, Physicists and of course daredevils 6 to 9 years old to get out on the track and have a go. This age group is usually full of confidence and no fear.
Now we are getting into some serious construction. This is the age group that are inquisitive of how things work and love to pull things apart to see how they work, often leaving your best tools out in the elements or for your tools to just simply disappear.
Now we mix it up and we expect will be the days most competitive. We expect this category to produce not only fast but also some great looking and unique billycarts. We can see all those that love to tinker in the shed sketching down ideas over a few lemonades and working out the wind velocity and skin friction relative to the speed!
This is the Grand Finale for the day and will be the crème de la crème of Karratha/Dampier businesses fighting for the Corporate Cup and obvious bragging rights forever more. This is a great opportunity for businesses to display engineering skills and represent businesses within the community and a great chance for employees to work on something out of the norm.
In all divisions the driver and passengers must be seated, such that all times the feet are forward of head. Australian Standard bicycle helmet as a minimum must be worn at all times with chin strap secured around chin. Long sleeves and long trousers with enclosed shoes are compulsory. It is also recommended that eye protection, elbow and knee guards to be worn. Parents can opt for wrapping their children in bubble wrap but this may hinder steering and braking abilities.

Firstly, for the divisions of Parent & Child, Juniors and Intermediates, this is about spending time with the kids and having a fun time doing so. It doesn’t matter if you throw a few bits of wood and four wheels and paint it bright pink (as long as it is safe and to specs). It’s about the kids having fun and remembering the good times spent building, racing, and of course painting/decorating.
Secondly, for the other divisions, it is a community event and it is meant to be fun and inclusive. If you think you will have flash backs of burning down the tarmac and bumping other people out of the way Mad Max style and win at all costs this event isn’t for you. If you are fair and in it for fun and a challenge, this event is for you.
The race start is on a starting ramp. The ramp is designed to suit most carts and it is important that the following sizes be used when building your billycart. All carts will undergo a safety check and scrutiny after registration on Sunday morning before being eligible to race. Younger drivers can elect to start from the base of the ramps if they wish.
There are few scrutineering requirements that are mandatory for safety that apply for all divisions:
